Delhi: an incredible city full of surprises

With 20 million inhabitants, the Indian capital is one of the world’s largest cities. The enormous urban sprawl is composed of various districts, each with its very own character: some magnificent, others simple and marked by poverty. A rough orientation for visitors is the separation between Old and New Delhi. Within the town walls of Old Delhi one travels back into the era of the Mogul Empire. Here is located the largest mosque in India, Jama Masjid, whose southern minaret offers a fantastic view over the city. New Delhi on the other hand hosts the government district and to this day, the influence of the former British colonial rule is clearly visible in the way the city is laid out: magnificent boulevards, grand residential districts and parks laid out along the lines of English gardens.

In Delhi the traditional and the modern India meet – a trip to the mega-city is a unique opportunity to experience life on the subcontinent in all its facets.

Lufthansa flies daily with the A350 between Munich and Delhi (DEL). There are also daily flights from Frankfurt to Delhi. The New Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport is situated only 16 kilometres south of the city. One means of transport from and to the airport is the Airport Express, which also connects the airport with the New Delhi Railway Station. Buses belonging to the public Delhi Transport Corporation shuttle from the airport every 30 minutes.
